Reader's Guide のテーマ別項目を関心を惹くものからポツポツ読んでいるが、どの記事を読んでも実に面白い。たった一つの項目を書くためにも関連しそうなあらゆる文献を狩猟し、徹底的な調査をしていることが伺える。このように膨大な未発表書簡やマイナーな文献資料を駆使できるのも、夫妻がトールキン・コレクター＆ビブリオグラファーという最強のタッグチームだからこそだろう。
とにかく一項目ごとの内容が恐ろしく濃い。
テーマ別項目はそれぞれが独立した一種の小論文もしくはエッセイとしてじっくり読むべきだと思い、今後の読書の目安として、テーマ項目とページナンバーを抜き出してみた。
